What to Include When Submitting Articles to Directories

Title

Your title should contain your keyword first (because this is what the search engines will look at first) and something catchy to attract people to read the article.   If you keyword is “Cheap Domain Hosting”, your article title should look like this:

Cheap Domain Hosting – Best Bang for the Buck Web Hosting

Description or Summary

This is where you would describe what your article will teach your readers and why they should read it.  This will be shown in the search results on google so be creative.

Body

This is your entire article.  Make sure to read the submission guidelines before you start posting articles because some directories allow the use of html and some do not.  Some directories allow links in the body and some do not. But if you use article submission tools, like article submitter, only use plain text in the body and save your links for the Author Box.

Keywords

This is the phrase that you are targeting.  You should use at least two keywords for each article.  Generally, one for every 150 words.  Make sure to use the singular and plurar of your keyword phrases to attract more visitors.

Category

All directories will allow you choose a category for your article.  You should use the category that best describes your article.  If your article is in a category where it doesn’t belong, the directory will not allow it, and it will hurt your search engine rankings.

Author Signature or Reference Box

This is the most important part of the article because this is where you can put your link to your website.  More links to your website, means higher page rank in the search engines.  Here is an example of a good author box:

John Doe has been teaching computer science for over 25 years.  Visit his blog at http://johndoecompscience.com for in depth analysis of computers.

John Doe is online business expert, consultant and author for over 10 years.   Writing articles has helped him become known online, get more newsletter subscribers and sell more products online. He is sharing all the secrets she has discovered in her marketing ebook available at http://johndoesecretwriting.com.
